BUTTERFLY WEED
(Asclepias tuberosa)

Not only is this plant, a member of the milkweed family, an essential garden addition in support of Monarch butterflies, the dried stems are also a great source of fiber. This species is native to North America, where I live. At the end of its growing season I strip the fiber from the stems and twine it up into cordage to then use in weavings.
